Sprocket Question
#1
Okay, i have a 400ex and i am looking for more bottom, i hardly ever ride where i can get wide open, and i am thinking about getting a 14 tooth front sprocket. I have also thought about getting smaller diameter tires (18x10.5x9 klaws) but my tires are still in good shape. Also if i get the 14 tooth sprocket will i have any probs with my chain? I have heard that i might have to take a link out. My bike is only about 3 months old and the chain is in really good shape, has not stretched much yet so hopefully i would not have to do this. I just want yall opinions on sprocket deal. Also would it be better for me to keep the stock gearing and just go with a smaller rear tire? Thanks for the info ahead of time.

I ran 22" Holeshot XCT's for a while, and figured I would gear down to make up for the bigger tires. So, I put on a 14T sprocket. It was fun for "play riding", but useless out on the trail. The slightest blip of the throtle had the front end reaching for the sky. If you got carried away and powered out of a turn, the front would come up and you would lose steering. I would go a tooth bigger in the rear. Any more than that is to much.
Is you bike piped, or your motor modded in any way? If not, you may be down on power because of that??? The EX is famous for its low end grunt. Can't say what is wrong with yours.

Okay, i put the sprocket in today, and i noticed alot moer power down bottom. But on the down side it seems that i have lots quite a bit of top end speed. I knew that i was going to lose some but i think i may have lost a bit to much. Oh well, i will really see if i like it when i go ridding this weekend. And if not that i will put the old one back on. But as far as acceleration the 14 tooth does wounders... and ALOT eaiser to get the front end light
