Built like a tank....like most other TRX300 models.
You didn't mention if you had the 2WD or 4WD, but if it is indeed a 2WD, be sure to keep an idea for wear on any of the front end componets. The 2WD models prior to 1992 used a macpherson strut system that is very expensive to repair and maintain compared to thr double A-arm versions that came later on. Just keep an eye out. When you see slack or wear in bushings and bearings, replace them ASAP before you have a bigger headache.
As for problem areas to look for. There are none. All of these now adays are seeing lots of repair work, but that;s because they have had the "stew" ran out of them for years and weren't maintained as they should be.
Just don't put the oil filter in backwards or run long periods of time with worn rear axle bearings and you should be good to go.
When it does come time to replace a part, have your local dealer cross reference your part to those parts used on the 1996-2000 year models. Most of all these year models used parts that were sourced from the U.S. and are much cheaper. Some interchange and some don't. Most parts guys who haven't been in the industry since that time don't even know about this so try to test him without insulting him. It could save you some real big bucks.

Thanks, I forgot to mention i'ts a 4x4. How do you know if the rear bearings need replacing? I have a 3 month 50/50 warranty on this one and i would to replace anything now if need be. I also noticed some oil leakage from the top of the head. I cant be sure if its a head gasket or not. Any other places where the oil could come from??
