Default Hey, New to the Forum

Hello Everyone. I recently registered here. I just bought a 1999 Honda Foreman ES (yellow) which is currently in the shop for a complete tune up. The previous owner used it entirely for running around on a contruction site, so it has little wear and tear but it wasn't ran for over a year.

I already have a few questions reguarding accessories, namely winches. Last week I went 4 Wheeling with some friends, and while crossing a fairly high and strong creek, one of the 4 Wheelers got stuck right at the bank( it was a sandy dune) Luckily one of the riders had a winch on his Polaris. We had no trouble winching him out of a thick hole. Question: I'm looking at the Warn 1.5 atv winch which should be sufficient (1500lbs pulling load) and for the mount, the Warn standard winch mount. Will this mount bolt directly to the chassis or does it require the Warn bumper? Does it go above the skid plate or does that need to be removed? How far does it stick out or is it flush with the grille?

Also just for giggles. The first time we crossed the creek the 4 wheeler got stuck( the first time) it was a 1994ish FourTrax 2wd. The guy with the Polaris comes "to save the day" and makes the comment "The Mighty POlaris is going to pull out the wimpy Honda" ..... He ties a chain to the back of the Polaris and the front of the Honda and in no time, the POlaris burries himself in the sand... so the mighty polaris is stuck too. So we get the Honda Rancher 4x4 tie the winch cable to that and he pulls out both the Honda AND the Polaris. That was a nice slap in the face to the Polaris. Heh Heh.

I think you will want to go with the 2.5ci or even the 3.0ci, with a machine that heavy. As I recall, the 1.5ci is designed for light/sport bikes.

The winch I had on my Recon mounted on a plate that mounted on the front of the frame. The the roller fairlead mounted on the bumper above the skid. The only thing that stuck out was the hook. It really depends on the mount for a specific winch.

I would buy at least a 2000 pound winch.

Anything can become stuck if the person is having enough fun.

i would go for the 2.5 or 3.0 NOT the 1.5
i have the 2.5 on my honda and it is adaquit but i would like a better one.
when you get good and stuck you need a strong winch or you going to kill your winch and still be stuck. go for the bigger winch if possable or you'll kick you butt for it later.
