Default K&N for 400EX?

I think I'm gonna try one. Does the K&N use that screen insert that you have to use with the stock air filter?

No, you do not keep that restrictive stock insert.

I ran a K&N for a while but have gone back to foam, for some added security. I now run a UNI. It is 2 stage, and has an insert that is way less restrictive than the stocker. Consider opening up your airbox lid (http://www.ehsracing.com/). That will make more difference than anything else.

Cool! I hate that insert. I'm running an open air box now with an outerwares lid and White Bros Powerfilter. It works good but the filter gets dirty too easy and makes it run rich with my jetting (much too restrictive). I've seen those lids your talking about and wish I would have got one BEFORE I hacked up my air box..................Can't use lid now!

Does the Power Filter use the stock insert??? If so, check out the UNI. My advice is to stick with foam.

With a K&N, all you have between all that dust and a ruined engine, is a little paper thin piece of cotton gause! Not enough margin for error in my opinion. Better to be sure, than to toast an engine.

Yeah, the WB uses the stock insert. So, when you order a UNI does it come with its own insert or do you buy it seperately? Sounds like what I should be using. I already ordered the K&N but it should be ok through the winter months.
Actually, the WB seemed like it worked better when I used NoToil filter oil but found out that it eats the glue on the WB. Now I've been using that Bel-ray blue stuff and its more like glue than oil. After a few rides it seems like it chokes the air flow. What oil do you use on the UNI?

If you run the K&N, be sure you use an Outerwears!

The UNI comes with its own insert. The screen has large openings, so it isn't nearly as restrictive as the stock one. I use Maxima FAB1 spray oil.

We have lots of dust out here in the desert, so a filter gets dirty real fast! So, I change filters often. I have 3 filters for each bike. One on the bike, one oiled up and ready to go, and one in the wash.
