Hello everyone,
I'm a parent volunteer with a local high school marching band, and in the middle of a competition last night, our honda quad died. I've been reading through some posts here and I'll bet you guys can help us. A little background on me. Some years ago I was an ASE auto tech and am comfortable with troubleshooting ignition systems on CARS, but poking around in this thing made it obvious that I have no clue. I THINK this is a '95 trx250, but I'm not real sure since it's been painted and there is no literature with it. Anyway, the bike was idling and suddenly quit. No sputter, just like turning off the key. Did the screw driver in the spark plug boot thing, and no spark, nuttin. I didn't have my Fluke with me, but with a test light I got low voltage at one terminal of what I beilieve to be the coil while cranking and two fuses I found in the battery box tested ok. All other electricals are fine (lights etc.) In other posts I've read I've seen references to a stator, and CDI but really don't know what these are. Is the CDI like a control module or ECU? I'm thinking this may be the silver box under the left rear fender with heatsinks all over it? And I know what a stator IS, but not how it relates to this ignition system. Any help you guys can offer would be GREATLY appreciated since we're a rather poor school and shelling out the bucks for the local Honda dealer to do this would really damage our budget for this year. What would be great would be a schematic or very good description of the ignition system and any values that I could check. The Highland High Marching Scots thank you.
