Default picking out a new ride

well i'm playing with the idea of getting a new atv and have basically narrowed it down to the yamaha and honda 450's and also the predator troy lee. i figured i would start out asking opinions here since i really like the honda. every honda ive ever owned has lasted about anything i could put it through and it was really tough. but just in overall what are everyones opinions on the 3? for some background info, im 5'8 130 and my ds is a little to big for me to play with. i mostly ride trails and open farm land here in kentucky so thats why im toying with the idea of something a little smaller. id like to try some hare scrambles series eventually but thats later on.

dunno, the yfz and trx weigh 50 pounds lighter, but the preds have some nice torque and high top speed, really depends on your preferred brand

Well if you really like Hondas then get one of those by all means, but i would recomend the Yamaha also. The yfz is pretty good.

yeah, another reason want to go with either the pred. or honda is because everyone around here seams to have a yzf. i can think of 4 people right off the top of my head compared to only 1 that has a pred. and i dont know of anyone around here with a honda.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it SEEMS like everyone is having problems with reliability of the yfz's. I might get jumped for this, but that is what kept me from getting one.

There are a few hondas blowing up too all stock. There are many, many more yfz's on the market, they have been out for an extra year, and most are past thier factory warranty and or modded from stock. Yamaha has taken care of a few cases but many are left on their own. Honda seems to be a little more helpful.

Neither is bulletproof.

but then also i talked to a honda dealer and they come standard with 6 month warreny plus you can buy a 2-4 year extended warrenty for up to 500 dollers which i would imagine would be worth it. i dont know how yamaha's compares but i know the bombard. only has a 6 month to which mine runs out in november with no extended warrenty available. i bought it new in may. its an 02 and was used as a demo, and now owe 5300 on it. i know theres no way i can get that much out of it, id say i'd be lucky to get 4k for it. so i might just be stuck with it for awhile.

Extended warranty = Ripoff for uninformed buyers.

I have the YFZ and I have rode the 450r and I can say that they are both great bikes, There are a few key differences though. The YFZ seems to have a little more top end then the R and a little less bottom end torque. The yfz is electric start the r is kick, I really could'nt care less about that but some people do. Then you have honda and Yam, I really think that honda probally makes a more reliable bike but I'm not into the way it looks especially now that the 400ex looks exactly the SAME!!! what the hell is with that, people can't tell if your riding a grandma 400ex or a R. That turns me off alot... Good Luck
