Quit telling him to re-jet! It won't hurt to ride it the way it is w/o the spark arrestor in. Due to the internal baffle it won't flow that much more air.
4-strokes are not as sensitive about jetting a 2-strokes are. Some of you guys worry that every little tiny change, you'll have to re-jet! Don't worry so much. You'll know if it's jetted wrong.

If removing the chrome piece is the spark arrestor, then yes you take a chance on igniting the forest.

400exrydr you are right partly...4-strokes are just as picky about jetting...if your running lean you still burning up your engine...and you going to have a boggy engine...the only difference is you will make it 50 hours on a 4-stroke running lean besides 5 hours on a 2-stroke running lean...and yes he does need to rejet

Don't take the spark arrestor out, personally I think the 400EX sounds like crap with the stock pipe sans the spark arrestor & quiet core, very loud and raspy, sounds like an old blown out glasspack.

Also, although the risk of actually starting a fire is minimal, it can blow flames out the back of the pipe, especially if jetted a little on the rich side.

It is also irresponsible, for the absolutely miniscule amount of power that *might* be gained, to unnecessarily bring negative attention to yourself and our sport in these days of losing riding areas is just plain selfish and not smart. Keep in mind this is coming from a person that absolutely loves a good exhaust note and has been known to go out of his way to listen to a cool vehicle or ride. Just think of what those that are not quite as enthuasistic about motorsports are thinking when they hear your uncorked bike.

gabe i feel ya,

but i never rode it anywhere besides my backyard without it, and i don't hear any differance between a 400ex with a white bros pipe, and mine without the baffle. So it is ok to have a loud quad with a white bros pipe? but not one that is just as loud without a baffle??

PS: gabe are you fench??? cuz sans means without in french... just wondering
