the internal gear ratios were already mentioned! haha try again vato.

Here is another one. The pressure plate on the 86-87 is very different from the 88-89. The upper water spigot on the radiator goes inside the frame rail on the 86-87 and outside the frame rail on the 88-89. I may have those backwards though.

dabeech- do you mean how 86-87 had 13/39 gearing and 88-89 had 13/38? I used to have the exact diffrences between each trannies gear, but forgot. I do know that 86/87 had a taler primary gear than 88/89... Oh ya i just remembered that the 86/87 stlye swinger had 2 chain adjusting bolts and 88/89 had 4.

you're just jealous

I knew about the pinch bolt change, just didnt bother to posting it. The chain sliders are different as the 86-87 style is one inch longer then the 88-89. The 89 style a-arms were adjustable while the earlier years werent. Cant remember the year but i believe the 88-89 had aluminum skid plates in the front (bumper) and the earlier didnt. There are a ton of other things, but i think these are enough differences for one thread

I didnt know most of this stuff, but that's because when I owned them they were new and I only had to work on what I broke. Or to make a little more power...

Nope, it doesn't fit.

im not trying to get in the middle of the mental pissing match on who knows the most 250r knowledge here, but they did not add 2 bolts to the swingarm for chain adjustment in 1988. mine does not have 2- it has 4. yes it is the gold one. my bike is totally stock in regards to suspension...until i bolt my

Yeah Beech,
I could'nt get a 13-39 to fit. Also have a twin row carrier. Chain would either be 1/2 link too long or too short. I think I'd have to use a 12 or 14 front? Is a 13-39 possible on the 88?

i have 2 86's and 2 88's. The 86's have a 2 pinch bolt system and the 88's have a 4 pinch bolt systme.

2strokefreak, just add a half link and you'll be good.
