The 05 model has a taller 5th gear than the 04-later, so yes it does go faster but I haven'y noticed that much of a diffence. null

 

All mine has is a pipe air filter cam 416 big bore big gun cdi ported&polished... And I belive that it will do 86mph w/ 15/38 gearing and with 20 inch meats. I know this because I raced a tuner car I smoked him in the 1/4 mile and he didnt pass me untill he was going 88 and he passed me slow. My '05 400ex which is stock clocked at 69.3mph. I used a GPS to clock it.

it also depends on the pipe the best pipe i would say which will give you the most top end would have to be a splash 'n' dirt

Damn right. Those bug eye headlights are sharp. When I see the new 400 headlight, I think Bubble Boy. You don't need reverse unless you're an idiot or you ride with idiots that always stop right in front of you.

I don't know about "fat. old, and lazy" but I sure as hell wanted reverse after years on a 2000 400EX without it. You guys that don't like it should give it a try sometime, I'll know you'll start to appreciate it and miss it when you don't have it. When I went shopping for a new wheeler I was looking hard at a Suzuki Z400 until...............you guessed it, Honda added reverse to the 400. Then it was an easy choice. Keep riding Red.
