250X carb ?
#13
Sorry to revive such a HUGELY old thread but it seemed like a good starting point for my question...
I have an 87 TRX250X....I have gas in my oil so I figured it was the float needle.....Took the carb apart and found no dirt or anything so I want to replace the float needle....
Problem is, it seems like NO ONE makes a rebuild kit for this! For the 91-92 TRX250X, yes....but not my 87....
Any ideas as to why!? The bike ran OK except for the gas in the oil issue.....
I really just wanted to rebuild the stock carb...not get into using another model carb etc...I seet he 300 EX mentioned....how different is it as far as hooking up to the stcok cable and boots?

The venturi dia on all 250x and 300ex carbs are 29mm (measured at the restriction). The pilot jet on an 87 is a 35, and a 300ex uses a 38, but using a 300ex carb should just bolt right up...no hassle.
The main jet for stock 300ex is 122, and the 87 250x used a 125, most likely with your changes, youll need a bigger one anyway,
For the float and rebulid kit, a 300ex kit should work for that carb...itll just have 300ex jets, which are different as ive listed above.
If you buy a replacement 300ex carb, the only visual difference is the yellow choke handle, instead of the black one on the 250x..otherwise no one will know unless they cross reference the QB number. All 300ex carbs are QB02 , and 250x are QB 29 or QB 01.

Thanks.....I am actually running a 122 now in that carb...along with the 35 slow jet......
A friend of mine suggested I just reassemble the carb and fill her with gas using a clear hose and see if the level drops now that the float and float valve have been reinstalled.,...
The level has dropped over a couple hours....notsure where the gas is going as it hasnt left the carb yet.....gonna let it sit overnight and see what happens....
I wanted to replace the needle....that is still stock in mine.....but since they dont make a kitwith the stock size I would have to roder that seperately from Honda......$30 just for the needle....the whole aftermarket kit for a 91 including a needle is $30.....whats wrong with that picture....LOL
Is a bad float valve pretty much the only thing that could cause me to have gas in my oil??

Your plastic float may have a hole in it, and its filling with gas.
If you shutoff the bike, when it sits, turn the gas tank valve to off, and either drain the float bowl, or run the motor til it dies...the float bowl will be dry, and then there wont be any gas going into the motor oil.

Well, I checked to see if there was fuel in the float itself and found none....I think the level has stabilized, after sitting all day....The level could have been dropping due to the plastic hose I am using having some kinks....the kinks may have popped out some and therefore dropped the level.....
I have a rebuild kit coming and will replace the float needle valve and gaskets.....I will also clean the jets and then give her a try I guess.
