i would change gearing before changing tires. that is, unless you need to change to taller or shorter tires.

Uh you don't have to touch the engine to change the gearing. Changing sprockets and/or tires is changing the gearing. Putting smaller tires on is the equivalence of making all the gears lower and will increase the range of the powerband. Same thing goes if you put a smaller sprocket on the front or a bigger one on the rear.

hey look heres what u need to do replace ur air filter (k@n) jet/replace ur carb i would replace it with an edlebrock get a dirt sceen air box cover and maybe a cam and a port/polish job. the rev box gives you rpms how often do u hit ur rev limter for me its when im hauling down my drive way or on ice or drag racing and i am usually more worried about blowing my engine than geting a mile an hour or so more to speed. if u have a lot of cylinder and head mods it might be worth it but i don't think it is enough value for ur buck to invest in it.

I have exhaust, airbox, piston, cam, carb, and gearing mods and removed my white bros. cdi cause it sounded like I was ready to grenade when climbing big hills or drag racing. It's a proven fact that the 400ex motor makes very low HP numbers when over reved so don't waste your money on a rev box unless you plan on building a very strong bottom end.

I am interested for more feedback on these mods. I have already acquired a hot cam for mine. Once my 6 month warranty is up I will be adding the cam a, K&N and a jet kit to complement my Yoshimura pipe. Should I get a CDI box to utilize the cam, or will this work my bottom end of my engine too much? Thanks

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. The rev boxes out there for the EX make a huge difference. I have three that I play with, I have the White Bros, the Big Gun and the stock. All of them are different. For all around, I like the White Bros. For cold starting, I use the stock one, and for top end power the Big Gun is the best. I take all three out with me when I am at the dunes. Those that think I am crazy about the results, I simply plug in one to thier EX and they are always amazed. Its good for a 1 hp or 2 - worth every penny!
