I plan on installing a back-up kick starter on my quad. What kind of problems can I expect? I think I will need some way to activate the electric decompression. Any thoughts?

I think itd be possible, since the XR400R has a kicker. Youd need a decompression lever, maybe a right side engine case... or does the cog stick out of the motor on the EX?

If you have ever kicked over a xr400 you would know that you dont even need the decompression lever to start it.It mainly comes in handy if engine gets flooded and you need to clear it out quickly. At 9.3-1 comp on xr motor compared to 9-1 on ex they are basically the same. The ex uses decomp lobe to ease pressure on elec starter motor for longevity.Let me know how the mod works.

I just ask one question.WHY??Is too hard to pop start your quad if in some slight instance your electric starter dies.No offense to you but save your time and effort and money and deal with the pure plesure of just having electric start.Needless to say the value of the quad when you hack in a kickstarter.

I don't hack. I have been a precision machinist for three years and I have the experience to know that this should be cake. My quad is brand new and it has blown fuses on hot days in the gravel pit. I don't like pop starting it. If it came with a kick starter to begin with, I wouldn't have this problem. I'm not replacing the electric starter, this is only a backup.
