Hot Cam ?

Alright, well since i will hopefully be putting in a high comp piston sometime soon would it be okay to just run the stage 2 for now and then just put the piston in? Also i will be trying to do all the work my self, save some money, is there instructions on how to put the piston rings in place and what grove they go in? I have also been told that i might have to gap the rings, will i have to do this or can i just install the rings on the piston and drop it in? Thanks, I think i will just wait on the stage 2 cam until i have enough money to do them both at the same time. I will be putting in a JE 11:1 , stock bore, with the stage 2 HC, and from Cals recomandation i will use honda bond where the base gasket would normally go and us the cosmetic head gasket.
I know this is off the subject, but the other weekend i raced my buddies z400 its been built, 13.5 high comp piston, port and polished, upgraded in. and ex. cams, 41mm FCR carb, jetted right, k&n filter and PC full exhaust. Before when i just had my PC t-4 slip on he would beat me buy 1.5 bike lengths, but when i put my sparks x-6 system on and adjusted the throttle cable on my ex we were neck and neck the hole race till there very end where he pulled about 2 feet on me, and i am also running the stock gearing. We even switched ridders and got the same results. Now to me this is not right, his bike has about $2500 worth of motor work done to it and my bike only has the sparks x-6, jetted right and the k&n air filter.
And the other weekend when we tood our bikes to the drag strip 1/8th mile, i was running 9.5 with just my Procircuit T-4 slip on, with a 14 tooth front sprocket. And everone that was there did not believe that my motor was stock. I was beating piped raptors other 400ex, and even stayed right beside my buddy that has a 05 450r, he's not that great of a rider though. So needless to say i and everyone else was impressed with my lil ex.

jesus. GET THE STAGE 1. Stage 2 is better if you get 12:1 or over, plus you have to get KibbleWhite Valve springs, their like 150$ For your situation get the STAGE 1. stage 1= low-mid + upper bost, Stage 2= less bottemend, most of mid, more top end. Stage 2 is more for MX and desert racing, stage 1 is trails.

You'll also get a better holeshot when you get the Stage1.........

i think a stage 1 would suit you better if you run the stock piston. with the x-6 and my 11:1 426, i prefer the stage 2. however, i do a lot of dragging a very little trail riding. i do prefer hondabond on the base instead of a gasket to provide a better flame travel accross the top of the piston. others don't recommend it. i got the idea from engine builders. however, put it on very light so you don't plug up any holes.
