Default 250X winter project

I recently pulled out my old X from the garage and would like to bring it back to life. I have found that the carb is just about ruined from rust and so is the tank for that matter. I would like to know is it easier to rebuild or replace the carb. Also is there anything else that i can change on the bike to make it a little smoother of a ride and kinder on the trails. I have heard some about 400ex swaps, do they r4eally work? Remeber ebay will be my best friend, thanks for any help

I think im the perfect person to reply to your questions. As far as the carb maybe it would be best to just get a new one. i rebuilt the carb on my 250x and it took a while to get it to act right and get it dialed in good. For a new carb i would say ebay would be your best bet. Or for a lil more performance get a stock 400ex carb or the ultamite would be gettin an Edlebrock carb. There so nice. I have found aftermarket plastic tanks on ebay as well. If u can find one around 100 dollars get it quick. There expensive. I have done the 400ex shock conversion on my 250x and its so worth it. All that suspension travel is awesome. All u need to do is get the mounting bracket off of ebay. Diamond J customs is the place that makes them and sells them on ebay. Other than that youll need a set of 400 ex shocks. I got a pair off of a 02 400ex for 88 dollars. Just look around and youll find what u need. As for a rear shock i have one off an 01 raptor. I didnt put it in yet but i plan on it soon. Or you could jsut find a rear shock from a newer 300ex. Or if u had extra money to burn a works or elka rear shock would be badass. Everything youll need you should be able to find on ebay. Good luck and if u have any questions just ask. I built my X from just a frame.

With the 400ex suspension change, what all do i need to get, a-arms, spindles and hubs??? And for the carb off the 400ex, is there any kind of mod that needs to be done to it to make it fit, or is it a strait one for one swap?

Nope all u need is the bracket and shocks. If u wanted to u could also swap a 400ex front end on. But its not neccesary at all. And i believe the 400ex carb is a direct swap as well.

Thanks for the help, what did you do with your rear axle to widin it? Will spacers do the trick and will 300ex spacers also fit?

My rear axle is aftermarket and to be honest i dont know what brand it is. LOL U could use spacers but i dont really like em. Better to save up the money for a wider axle and a nice axle carrier like the one lonestar has for the 250x/300ex.
