I cant tell you this from experience but I can tell you from past research and from what others have told me. Ok the 440 kit is for the Ut most Torq but is not the fastest due to it being bigger and heavier and not reving as high nor as quickly. The 440 also has more vibs and more harsh on all your parts internally. The 416 is for the quickness and speed. It revs higher and quicker than the 440, and seems to be extremely reliable. And a well tuned 216 can get like 40+ hp. I dont know anything about the 426, but Im sure its real close to the 416. hope this helps you. Later

Sorry BLC, none of the above are going to accomplish your mission. Ive already races 3 440ex. Smoked em all... I will say this though, they are alot faster than a regular 400ex.

Roost king, are you illiterate? LOFL

he said the 416 is faster than the 440. and your banshee is souped up pretty well...

I'll beat the most modified banshee in the woods... anyday, anytime

and these are no webster wide open woods......

i bet a 250ex could beat a banshee in tight spots LOFL

Dude, I was just trying to give him some helpful advice before he wasted his money. When hes talking speed, Im assuming drag racing, hill climbing, and or dune riding. Its not gonna happen on a 416, 426, or a 440 much less the "NEW " high perf quad from Honda, the 250exLAX. If you wanna race, I could get my 85 LT 250 R and smoke you in the woods and the track, if I so desire... Sooo, lets keep things civil and try not to mislead this poor guy....In fact, At the track tonight, Im gonna WASTE that 400ex rider thats been talking smack. Just for you my friend...

Hey Roostking,

You are always talking a lot of trash about the 400EX, how 'bout meeting me at the next Arkansas Harescramble and find out what the lowly 400EX is capable of? Bring your Banshee or a Polaris, it matters not. Put your money where your mouth is and enter the Pro class with me. A lot of fun will be had if nothing else (maybe you'll even get to see me wrap my bike around a tree ).

Oct 29 at Amity, near Hot Springs....

BTW, where is Cheyenne? I can't find it in any of my mapping software..

You really need to get past what the magazines say about these different so-called "kits." The major increase in performance with any of these is the benefit of the high compression piston.

When the magazine claims they put in a 416 because it is less vibration than a 440, and it is a lighter piston which will rev quicker...I say BULL. The reason they did it on the particular race bike is probably more like this: Slightly cheaper and faster to install (i.e. no re-sleeving the cylinder). Plus, with the added wear placed on a race engine, they are left with more over bores when the bike needs a new top end.

Remember, you are talking about 1mm differences in bore sizes between these different "kits." That is 1/2 of a mm of cylinder wall thickness. How much weight do you think that piston gains by adding 1/2 mm of material (aluminum) all the way around.

I say, consider how long you plan to own the bike, and if you plan to have it for a long time, go with the smaller bore so that you have room left for future top end rebuilds.

Roost King is right. With one of these engines, you may be able to take some stock Banshees, and maybe some piped (depending on rider size and skill, mostly size), but moderately modded units will still give you fits.

86atc250,
I dont actually livein Arkansas, I have family there. I am not sure why i put AR for my home state. Anyhow, I dont really talk trash about the 400ex, (alhtough I will admit that I used to, until I got beat at the track by one)I really do think they are nice machines, but when someone is asking for advice on hop ups to beat a Banshee, I am going to give it to them straight. No bull, no lies, just the truth, even if thats not what they want to hear. The truth is none of the above mentioned kits are going to beat a banshee for speed. And thats what he wants, speed. I am by no means the best rider in the world and am not ashamed to admit that I got beat by a 400 ex, not to mention a 300ex that a totally awesome rider borrowed...

As far as AK is concered. do you guys have alot of harescrambles? I might be in AK next summer and if I can work it out, I might bring my quad and try one of the harescrambles.

Talk to ya later,

RoostKing...

No problem, I just remembered a lot of your past posts....

You're right, in it's element the Banshee is very difficult to beat. It's going to take more than a couple simple mods on an EX to compete with a piped Banshee....

What dunes do you ride?

Oh yeah, goto the site I linked in my last post, there is a full schedule there for the remainder of this year, I suppose after this season is over, they will post next years races....

440ex is plenty reliable and the power is awesome. My bike does vibrate a lot but that feels nice to me. I was told that a 400ex bored to a 452 is still more reliable than a stock banshee or most other high performance 2 strokes. Make sure you get valves and cam at the same time as your 440 so you don't break anything. good luk
