I've been reading about the raptors and they are really nice. They obviously have more power than a 400ex but they weigh more and that hurts them. They're weight distribution is messed up too because of all the aluminum parts in the front and rear to compensate for the heavy engine in the middle of the bike. Aluminum is also known to break, especialy when you have a monstrous 660 motor to help you be hard on those aluminum parts. I do like how the stock shocks are high quality but who cares, you are gonna replace those shocks with aftermarket ones anyway! Im gonna keep my 440ex and hop it up a little more to beat those new raptors, while I handle better and jump higher. HA HA

Azruffryder99 is right. I can promise you that you can not tell that the Raptor weighs a ...whopping...20 pounds more. The Raptor jumps extremely well.

the last time i read the yamaha web site, they were unable to get 399lbs. they are really 401lbs. and the 400ex is 375lbs. dry. where do people get the raptor is only 20 lbs heavier? just curious, maybe i read something wrong. also once you add the 3+ gallons of fuel, oil and water, the raptor is probably more like 40-45lbs. more wet than the 400ex is wet. that much weight is substantial.

OK so if we put a guy on a raptor that is 25#s lighter than you and let him race you the 3.1 gallons of gas will cause him to get beat pretty bad since a 400 ex doesnt have a gas tank with fuel in it or any oil in your engine right? Even 25#s can be the difference in the weight of a riders gear and tools. Aluminum is Also the material of choice for Aircraft around the world because of its light weight and strength I havent seen many F16's land bent from pulling High G's. Of course also you have never read that the weight balance is identical to the 400 EX. Its not that a 400 ex is not good, its that the Raptor has the same feel, better suspension, and more power. It is Nice. If any of you guys are near me and want to take mine on a spin this week end let me know. Ill be riding all day tomorrow. But I do have some standards as to who rides, so no Idiots can crash it up.

Big deal if the Raptor is only 25 pounds or so heavier than the ex, The HP comparison is what? 28 for ex and like 45 for the Raptor. I ride a 400ex and i love it but i know when I'm beat. The only shot the ex has at topping the Raptor is in the handling suspension Dept.

for you who don't know, the raptor holds approximately 3.1 gallons of fuel, 400 2.6 gallons, difference approx 4.4lbs. the raptor probably holds at least 1 gallon of water, 400ex none, difference 8.8 lbs. add 8.8 for the water + 4.4 foe the extra fuel + 25 for the additional dry weight and you get 40.2lbs. i personally think the raptor is awesome. if i didn't have so much in my 440 i would have a raptor. just comparing weights for the people who are guessing actual weight

Hey Chris,

I may take you up on your offer. Where you riding this weekend? We aren't very far from each other (about 150 miles).

I'll let you have a ride on my TCS suspended 400EX if you want, it won't have the power of your Raptor, but it does handle and jump quite nicely...

Shoot me an e-mail and we'll talk...

Later
