2005 Rubicon Review

Hey Joe,
The ride is much better than those cheap stock tires. Radials make a huge improvement. I was extremely impressed with all abilities of the Bighorns. These tires are also about an inch taller than stock. You are smart getting 25's. I.m a stong beleiver in keeping my tires inside the fenders for a clean and safe ride. . keeping the mud, sand and water on the ground makes for a much more comfortable trip. Checked out your website [Very Cool]. If anyone is interested in mounting a Warn winch I have the absolutly the best place to mount the actuator in the battery compartment along with the alarm system from Alarm Guard. I will try to post the picture in the next couple of days for everyone to see.

tracmaster I got mine from e-winches .com like $80 shipped to my door For a Ramsey 2500 about three weeks ago. Let me tell ya with the radiator in the front(Rubicon) It's very tight! Now I'm waiting for a plow mount to come out cycle country has a part # but no one's selling them. Dealer said his distributor should have them next week.
I don't have a older Rubi to compare on like tubing but I do know Honda totally redesigned the frame on the 05.
PotatoJoe ITP C series 5 are SWEET There machined so they stay clean when your riding in the mud or muddy conditions just rinse them off or ride threw a creek there like new. Where my friend has 6 series polish and they always have a muddy tint to them don't get me wrong if you fill like buffing them they will out shine the 5 series. 5 and 6 series wheels are hard to tell apart there the same design one is just polished and cost more. When there on the ATV both finishes look about the same.
So if your going to show your ATV ya go with the 6 series BUT we're ride'N here so the ATV , Wheels, and Myself are going to get dirty!!!!!!OH YA REAL DIRTY!!!!!!
If you don't want mud, water and everything else flipping up Stay with 25 inch tires but if you like playing in the mud 26 inch tires is the way to go the inch is all tread so you'll get a lot better traction .On the trail 26's will beat the **** out of you and if it's wet and you gas it they will tear the trail all up Nobody wants that!!!!
So if you don't mess with mud stay with the 25's. 25's Are still very capable in mud holes

Well I got well over 500 miles on her and I still love it. I only had one problem so far I got stuck in mud and water up to my handle bars. Water plugged the inlet for my air box and killed the motor. When I got it out and the water drained out of muffler (very little in air box to my surprise) started it back up let it dry out for a minute. Went forward then when I put it in reverse it started acting up and started to flash a code put it back in gear rode back to the group. I shut it off and helped another guy out of a hole told everybody I had to go started up the atv and it ran fine. I've had no more problems must of been water logged.Not sure what happend! I'm going to buy performance kit and maybe a clutch kit. I want it to do a wheelie with ease!!! Will keep you updated.

Mudslinger;
I see you have a Rancher ES as well as the Rubicon. How do you compare the suspensions on each? The Rubicon ought to be much more comfortable, but how much? Also, how do you rate steering ease between these two? Many thanks.

Yea the low gear and the Rubicon has a full front bumper the Rincon does not also I've seen a review on both (ATV TV)last year and they sad that Honda clams the Rubicon is more set up for mud and the tougher conditions. I can't say for sure because I've never compared them side by side. I do know if I would of buried my rancher in the hole I did my Rubicon it would have filled the engine with water. All that got in the Rubicon was about an shot glass in the bottom of the air box and water was up to the ESP down shift button and it was about 15 minutes before I was pulled out !!!!!!! now that is awesome!!!!!!!
I did have trouble thou when I put it in reverse it flashed a code an was hitting the rev limiter. Though I had it fixed but it stared acting up again took it to dealer. There was mud(a lot) in and computer connection right under handle bars cleaned and greased an haven't had an problem since. Dealer said they got that a lot with the Rubicon so keep an eye out and in muddy conditions re grease every month
