310R ...banshee....or LT500 for dunes???
#1
Well, let me start with my situation....I'm pretty experienced as far as riding goes, and currently own a heavily modified 250r. Now I'm looking for a second used quad for about $4-$5k total range. The R I have now is built up extremely well for woods, but I want something for dunes. It seems like everybody has a differ opinion on this matter. The options I am currently considering are
LT500 around $2500 and dump about 2k into it for clean-up and suspension...
Already modified used banshee, tomee pipes more than likey and will probably put on suspension as well...
or by another 250r put on 310 kit and suspension...
The reason I need suspension is because I love to fly in the air so I want the balance and soft landings, but on the other hand also want the 50 to 70mph up hill in just a few seconds. Now maintenance would definately be a consideration and I don't want to have to rebuild but maybe once a year.... I also will probably be doing 70% dunes and 30% woods or track riding. So far sounds to me like go for the 310R, but if this is the case...I do not want to be smoked in the dunes by anything...unless it is a dune only machine, for instance a 370 long rod banshee with nos. So that leads me to another question of how differ are these machines in the dunes. I have heard that the lt500 is awesome in the dunes, but because of the wide front end will probably be taking out trees in the woods.
The current R I ride is running cool head, LRD pipe, rad valve, mild port-polish,and still not fast enough for dunes for me.
I have been known to bounce back and forth between
on road and off road. I just can't seem to go fast enough oof road, but I have heard this being a common dilemma for on road racers. Sure would be nice if they would take my old 96 gsxr 750 and just make a 250R with the 750 motor stuffed in it... lets say 120hp..
Anybody got any opinions????

I have a CT 310 kit as well on my '86 250R. Great duning machine. Beats all stock Banshees and those with just pipes and carbs that I've ever seen, but as you well know, not the pumped up dune monsters. Still and all, the handling and great ride more than make up for it in my mind. I've got Works gas shocks front and rear. On our dune trail riding treks at Glamis, the guys on the Fourtrax's always take the lead. I like duning more than racing, so the 310's fine for me. But CT's 330 or 350 would be the way to go if you don't wanna get beat by many people. For me, the CT 310 has more than enuff grunt for daily riding and can really fly when I want it to.

I have a CT330 engine in a bike right now and it is very fast! It easily smokes Banshees and any 250R's that I have raced against. I am selling the engine though because I would like to go back to a 250 for racing purposes. I am also selling a bike with some excellent shocks on it. I would consider dropping this CT motor into and selling it all to an interested party. Let me know, my email is Raychalp@msn.com
