i was looking at 416cc kits for the 400ex on ebay. and they were only 110 and they included the piston, rings, wrist pin, and circlips. i was wondering what needs to be done to the motor, obviuosly i would need to have it bored, and sleeved? i really dont know what sleeving is? do you need to sleeve? also, what would it cost for the cylinder to be bored? and is the kit easily installed? anything other info on these kits will help... thanks!

 

would i have to run on race gas or just the regular 91?

 

first off what kind is the kit wisco, pro x, je cause that sounds a little high

 

get the je or ross piston, in my opinion anyways. they come with all of that and i can pick them up for $120-$125. you won't need to resleeve. just bore it out 2mm's over stock. just send your piston in with the cylinder to get it bore so they match the rings to the sleeve.

It will probably be around $75 at the machine shop. If your friend works there it will be alot less. You will be OK with premium unless you go over 11:1 compression on the piston. Most piston kits are 10.8 or 11:1, there good to go. If you can get a kit for $125 and istalled for $75, you will be out $200. That is a good price for the torque you will gain.

The engine will benefit more, though, if you get the head ported and buy a cam. You will be around $500 total though, instead of $200.

 

would i have to take the cylinder out or can the machine shop do it? im not a mechanic or anything and dont know all that much about engines....

 

You would need to remove the "jug(cylinder)". It would be easy. If you change your oil, and have a repair manual, you could do it. If not, a shop would have to take it apart. They get about $75 an hour, and they would prolly say it is 5 hours or something ugly like that.
