Default 250R Headstay

I am completely rebuilding my '89 TRX250R. When I pulled my cylinder (Stock jug, major portwork) I found a crack just above the left rear base nut. Also, my left front motor mount was cracked, and my bottom mount was loose. I was told the headstay contributed to the crack in the cylinder. The cylinder has already been welded up and reinforced. It was suggested to me to install the headstay between the frame rails for frame stability, but not to bolt it to the boss in the head. Any one else run without a head stay?

I haven't run one in years. The head I use is RK Tech and it doesn't have headstay. I jump and haven't had any problems.

Thanks, I have new front motor mounts and plenty of lock tite for the rest of the bolts, so I will try it without the stay.
