Default RECon stock exhaust vs 250EX stock exhaust

I have looked at and compared these two bikes. The engines are Identical and run the same. The only difference I can see is the 250ex has a bigger opening in the exhaust. I can't tell that the ex runs any better because of it though. They both feel the same to me.

Does anyone Know if that bigger pipe makes any difference r is it just eye candy?

The two engines are not exactly the same. The 250ex is bored different and has other modifications to it that makes it have at least 10 more horsepower than the recon. For the exhaust system, I am not really sure if it makes a difference. One thing I have noticed is that between my brothers recon and my 250ex, mine seems to run quieter.

Hey guys,

In '04, the recon is the same engine as the Stportrax (EX). Before that, the Sportrax had an upgraded head and different exhoust sys. with it. The increase compression and different angled valve(s) were worth at least a few ponies, and then there's the 50 pound weight savings with the Sportrax. I'm looking for a Sportrax now for my son, but I will also be looking for a '04 or newer Recon if it's much less $$. Remember too that the Sportrax is disc brakes in front, and some people say too light a front end. Just some info I thought I'd pass on, I'm not tryin' to steal a thread here.

Alltire is right, the recons exhaust and intake were changed, aswell as compression ratio's and some kind of oil cooler. The recon itself is a wheelie monster, and of the 50 lbs off on the Ex, 40 lbs are probably off the front end.
