Yes that is why I bought mine. garmin etrex. Never use it in glamis. I have yet to get lost out there. but other places desert and lakes. they are great. ims makes a billet bar mount kit. You can also download tomasguide like info for any state and country, Fry's sells the software. Ive had mine 2 yrs and I still cant figure out all the options. you can save tracks, camp sites, the path You went. average speed, fastest speed. It knows where you sleep at night.lol. get and never get lost. bring spare battery's though.

Hey OldmanwithaRancer. I use a Garmin GPS mounted to my handle bars. Check my pics. It maps out a bread crumb trail as I ride. I compare the shape of the trail on the gps to a map to approximate my position. It can map a bread crumb trail for about 300 miles. It works great.
I hope this helps you

Have you guys seen the caching site? It is a Internet site GPS folks hide things and a log.
You track it down find it sign the log and take and replace something.. I have a friend who has gone wild over it... Some places you track by river you name it.. They are every were, I saw one 3 miles from my house.
I don't have a GPS yet but it looks like fun... Ill find were the site is.... They are in most cities and states

I have a Magellan Sportrak Map, and my buddy has the 315. Having owned a mapping GPS, I wouldn't buy anything but a mapping GPS. No matter where you are, you always have a reference to the closest road. With a non mapping GPS, you know where you've already been...period. With a mapping GPS, it doesn't matter if you've never been there before, you're looking at a map of the area. If I go down a new trail, I can see if it looks like it's heading toward or away from a road or trail. GPS' with mapping capabilities start at about 30 or so bucks more than non mapping ones, a no-brainer in my mind!!! Also if I need to find a street address, it's a few button presses away!

Here is the site I was telling yall about.
http://www.geocaching.com/

You use your GPS and find these hidden stuff. Put in by State/zip code
Its starting to be pretty fun thing. More and more folks getting involved.

This is my friends site were he hid one of his treasures. (well maybe not treasure)
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache...decrypt=y&log=

You have to locate it by boat on the Tennessee River.
He has pictures of the Island, his lab and surrounding visual sites'
When folks find it they leave messags what they went through to locate it. You sign the log remove something and leave something in the box.
Game Wardens, law, sometimes stop you.....
His user name is -boatman-
Hope yall have some fun with this..
