I am a little short on time here tonight, so I don't have time to go into detail....

I repaired one this winter with the same symptoms, it had a problem shifting, around 3rd gear. Biggest issue was metal shavings in the shift drum bearing that is in the right crankcase, hanging up the shift drum. this tranny had a lot morre issues because they kept trying to ride it and force it into and out of gears. It needed all the tranny bearings in the crankcase halfs, countershaft 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears, mainshaft 2nd, 5th and 3rd gears, an oil pump, etc.. from imbeded metal shavings. I also replaced all the shift forks because of wear and dammage.
I will explain what I thought went on when I have more time, gotta go....
