I have a 300ex, and i was thinking about getting race plastic from maier, however, i decided to risk it, and cut the stock plastic. Man, this was a good idea, i used a saw-zall, and was able to make a clean, even cut on both sides, that looked PERFECT, and this took like 10 minutes! PLUS, the maier race plastic did not even seperate at all, you had to take the handle bar setup off completely in order to access the gas tank, or carb. I rejet often, so this is nice. Cut your own plastic, its worth it.
