I own a 2005 Honda 400EX and unless you have a secret JET TURBO engine in your machine , I dont buy it.

my z400 tops 74, with a white brothers e-series exhaust and thats it ha... but a suzuki!

 

my room mate clocked me at 70 with his king quad 700. with 14/38 gearing. So with stock gearing and what im running... might be able to pinch another mile or two out of her.

 

I have seen 400exes with CBR600 motors crammed into them and yes they run over 100mph at the local race track!

ok i was riding with my buddy woh owns a predator 500 i think 2001 or 2004 but i ahve no idea. anyway we were riding and we went and took a leftat the same time, we then noiced my sister and her bf drving his car behind us, i tihnk mitusbisi someithng, he drove on the passing side of the road and my friend got ahead of me of course but my sis bf said i was running 70 and i wasnt going all out either because a slight blind corner was coming up so i let off the gas. thats a brand new 2007 400ex in catskill new york, and it runs that qucik, i dont care if u guys dont bleive me either casue im not lieing but it is a quick quad

 

I cant believe this one is still being debated.

I guess the top speed is someware between 60 and 200, and it all depends on who your asking.

One thing I know for sure is that like I said earlier top speed dont really mean crap, and the guy your racing has better acceleration (not to mention the much more important fact of skills) your top speed wont matter because you would be left behind at every turn, bump, jump, and whatever else you find out on the trail or on the track etc.

If your really concerned about top speed sell your atv and buy a Hyabusa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!1

and thats coming from someone who has a 440 in there 400, rightttt

 

True to that.

Do any of you guys get the idea that it doesnt really matter if your machine (or a stock one either) runs 60, 70 or 80 as much as it matters how fast it can get to top speed.

Unless your running the salt flats tying to set a new speed record WTF is the difference???

Mine has run with everything out there, but I can count the times its been at top speed on one hand.

 

Actually a 400ex is quite quick. Mathematically, it will hit just over 121 with stock gearing if it hits the rev limiter. I made an excel spreadsheet using gear ratios and came up with 121 (km/h... about 75 MPH). I'm sure that a stock 400ex won't be hitting the limiter in 5th gear, but give it just a little downward slope and it'll be hitting that 121 pretty easily.

One thing that I do not understand is how my friend was able to pass me with stock sprockets, but with 18" rear tires. All I did was lower my front sprocket to a 14 tooth but overall, going from 20" tires to 18" tires is lowering a lot more than going from 15 tooth to 14 tooth. My friend and I would be full throttle and he would be passing me (hitting the limiter like crazy). The mods I had at the time were:
polished ports (I think that's what you call it)
K&N Air Filter
DG Slip on Pipe

He had a UNI Filter and a FULL FMF Exhaust system. I think his edge over mine was heaving better headers for top end. I could hit my limiter but not as repeatedly as him. A 400ex with a 14T front sprocket should hit about 113 if it hits the limiter (almost 70 MPH)
