Fellas,
Purchased my 400ex during the beginning of June here in Georgia. This is my first quad and I have found the learning curve to be very steep. I am having no problems with keeping up with the others now. My question is: I am putting FMF's powercore IV w/spark arrestor (cause I do so much trail riding) and rejetting (K&N). When I purchased the pipe I thought I was getting the full system. When I went to drop my quad off and look at my new FMF I found it to be only the muffler. How much power will I miss out on by not using the full system? Is the headpipe really worth $200? Also, I keep seeing people talk about 14 teeth counter sprockets on their 400's. I dont ever get my 400 into 5th gear on the trails. Would a 14 tooth sprocket help my acceleration so I can use all of the gears? Thanks.

the Honda stock head pipe is very good. unless you do alot of engine work, I wouldn't replace it. I have a slip on Yosi pipe and it made a world of difference with a filter/jet kit. As for the sprocket, one word, YES!!! Dropping a tooth on the front makes a BIIIIIG difference. Climbing hills and trails are much better. One the best $20 investments ever.

Changing the front sprocket (counter shaft gear) is really easy. First, loosen the two bolts on the rear of the axle, push the axle forward by putting a small bar in one of the notches on the left side, take the cover off the gear, take the gear off. Then put the new one on and reverse everything and adjust the chain tension properly. The adjustments specs are in your manual.

I have a 400ex 00' too,and I enjoy it for trail riden an dunes they are a great all around ride/not much of a drag racer but they were not built for that either. Keep the shiny side up an the dirty side down an have fun with it later,rick{nv}
