Default ES? AT? ??

I know what a manual transmission with an automatic clutch is, I know what a CVT is. I even know what the Hondamatic is. However I'm having trouble understanding what exactly the Electronic Shift Program is??

Any help?

So is there no auto shift mode? You have to click up or down to shift?

Yeah, it's basically the equivalent to a foot shifter for your left hand. Up to upshift, down to downshift. An electric motor changes the gear position for you the same way you foot moves the shifter up or down. But on the Rancher AT 400, Rubicon, and Rincon you have "AUTO" mode where you just put it in gear and press the gas or you have "ESP" mode where you use the buttons to simulate shifting similar to that on a ATV with a manual transmission with auto clutch.

Thanks guys! That helps a lot! Looking for something for my fiance' and it sounds like she could handle the ES, although I'm sure she'd prefer an AT.

The AT model rancher doesnt cost but around 500 more, has more power, automatic or esp shifting, whatever she prefers, handles as well as the smaller rancher and is almost as light. I bought one for my girlfriend for valentines day and she loves it! As a matter of fact I love it! You can have the best of both worlds with these models in the honda line-up!

The Hondamatic has ESP, Electronic Shift Program.

The Recons, Rancher and Froemans have ES, Electric Shift.

The rancher 400AT has both the hondamatic and esp at the touch of a button plus the extra 50cc of power. The weight and handling are almost identical to the 350 rancher. The Rancher 400AT was the one I was referring to.

Actually its more like 68cc's of extra power, but the transmission has lost a good deal of low end compared to the 350 model.
