I have a problem with my front '86 250r brakes. They are really spongy and don't stop me very well. I took the calipers off of the mounts and cleaned the dirt out of them and lubed them. There is no evidence of bent rotors. My pads are good. One spindle is brand new and the other one doesn't look bent. I have bled the brakes for hours and put all new fluid in. I even tried steel braided lines and they made it worse, probably because they are +2 lines. Any suggestions? My next step is to order a master cylinder rebuild kit. Has anyone done this? How hard is it to install? Any other ideas of what is wrong? Thanks.

I've been thinking about your problem and haven't come up with a good answer. Try this site

http://pub20.ezboard.com/bhondatrx250r

It's a site dedicated specifically to the Honda 250R and a lot of people much smarter than me go there and help. Try it.

I have done this to mine and it works. Do one side at a time. Pump the brakes up. Then push the pistions back in to there bores, that pushes the fluid back up the lines with any air that is traped in the lines. If you leave the cap off you can see the air come up through the fluid. Do this till you see no more bubbles.

i have this problem too. this weekend i put a zip tie on the brake lever, while trailering and noticed when i unloaded that the brakes had bled down, but no leaks. so i think it's probably the master cly. by the way i instantly got a good lever feel first pull after bleed down. do you want to sell your braided brake lines?

If you still have the rubber front lines on the quad and they are very old from use the lines will expand when you pull the lever in. The only dix for this is to but new lines. And, if you are doing this, get steel ones.
