Default Ripped off by a dealer again

It's time for my periodic rant about dealers. Just needed a simple plug that covers the brake sdjusting hole on my rancher. no big deal. Go to servicehonda.com, check the price, list like 2.75, SH price like 2.15. Hmm might as well get 2 but do I really want to wait on the SH shipping. Mud, water in the brakes a no-no. Call 3 dealers, finally find some in stock. Get there "2 please". Out the door $9.75 lighter in my pocket!! WTH. Local dealer marking up the list from 2.75 to 4.00+. Add to that our local 8.25% tax.

Rant over..

I know what you are talking about, I broke the cap on the top of my diff, looked on the internet and it was like 6 or 7 bucks, I went to the repair shop and showed him what I needed and he went out back and got the same thing off of an old motercycle, same threads, cost 3 bucks and it has worked perfectly.
None of the showrooms around here ever have any parts for my fourwheeler so I always have to order it, that why I am glad I have a Honda and don't have to get parts for it often.

It just isnt ATV dealers, Im still in shock over this last one that got pulled on me. My 1997 f150 broke the connector that holds the sway bar to the a-arm. so I looked around on the internet and found prices from 15 to 30 buckS for the pair... I go to my local ford dealer,,,,, keep in mind ive spent $60,000 or more in my life time at his fine place of buisness (used cars). and they want to charge me 37 freaking dollars a pc!!!!!!!! NOT SOLD IN PAIRS HE SAID!!!!! my bill was gonna be over 70 dollars. Tried to tell me about special bolts and how OEM WAS MUCH BETTER. well to napa I Went and got the pair for 17 dollars. HEAVY DUTY ONES at that. Well all I can say is since 1992 ive bought trucks there. but the last few repairs , I have felt I was being gouged 120 dollar battery, 15 dollar wiper blades, 9 dollar a pc plugs Oh yes ive been keeping track. and all this happend when I went in for a oil change..... so needless to say. Just for the sake of doing it, My next truck will not only not be a ford but when I get my new dodge, im gonna drive it to there lot and pull in and tell them the reason I bought differant was parts were just to dang expensive for fords. LET THEM SOAK THAT UP FOR A BIT. OH and you gott love there 25% added to the bill because of rags, cleaner, oil disposal etc...

No doubt dodge parts are just as much. That was not my point.

The point I was making ,was at what point do the dealers say to themselves

"THIS IS A REALLY GOOD CUSTOMER, HE HAS SPENT THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT MY BUISNESS AND HAS SENT MANY OF HIS FREINDS ALSO TO BUY FROM ME.... MABEY I SHOULD STOP CHARGING HIM OVER RETAIL AND GIVE HIM SOME KINDA DISCOUNT....

A person would like to think that if he stayed loyal to a dealership rather it be car/atv/or whatever he would sooner or later get a better deal than the average joe?

But if my dealer does not want to treat me in such a loyal manner then I do not HAVE to go to him.
Hince the buy a dodge comment.

Sometimes I think dealers get used to GOOD customers and just think they no longer have to fight for there buisness because that good customer always goes to him.

Dealers charge book hours for repairs and book rates for parts. ALL dealers, all the time. Makes no difference who you are or how many trucks you've bought there.

Guys,

In sales there is a thing called the 80/20 rule. You make 80% of your profit from 20% of your customers. That 20% is usually the steady customer. You will discount to get the new customers business. But the guy that is in every week, that is were you make the money.
