I want to get a new set of tires. I called my local dealer and they want 50 bucks a rim to mount new tires. That is insane. Does anyone know of another place to get them mounted for cheap? How hard is it to do myself?

 

Front or rear?

Fronts are easier in my experience. Some car tire dealers will do it for $10-20.

The toughest part is breaking down the bead. With out a tire machine it is pretty tough. Once the bead is down, it isn't bad at all.

Some people try to cut off their old tires, which is like trying to chew through a set of handcuffs.

You could buy a set of tires with rims and save your current tires and rims as spares.

 

i think walmart does them for $5 a pop. but i dont trust some of the guys there and have heard stories of them getting scratched up ect...

i'm going to have them done/me taught how in autoshop at school

 

ran into the same problem, i tookmyne down to the local jhondeer but they broke the rim, (they felt raly bad and ofeered to pay for it but they hade bean good to us in the past so i said no problem, aneyways id say suck up the 50$, if you take it to an aotomotive shop ur runing the risk of getting ur new tires ruined, not because of carlesness but because the mounting equitment they have is ment for mutch biggar tires. just my advice goodluck

 

I used Discount tire (the big chain). The prices are comparable to mail order once you factor in shipping and mounting costs. They'll also fix any flats you get for free.

 

$ 50 a tire !!! Cheez 'n rice, thats too dang expensive per tire ... We charge $ 11 per tire at our shop and still break the beads by hand.

I took my new tires to NAPA they had a tire machine that was made for smaller tires, and they only charged $6 per tire so it was not bad, if your local auto shop or lawnmower shop has a machine made for smaller tires and rims then you should be allright.

 

i just put mine on at my house. and i had big mud tires. why dont u just try it at home?

 

I took my old mudlights off and put my new gators on right in my own garage . I bought a couple of big *** tire spoons at local honda dealer and used my car jack to break the beads took about 1/2 hr to do both tires no big deal

 

I called Les Schwab tire store and they do it for 5 bucks a tire. I'm just gonna take it there. I don't think doin it myself is worth saving 20 bucks.
