If your running a stock engine, all you really need is a slip-on. The stock header is plenty big enough. Adding the header on the Big Gun or Double Barrel will add a slight gain, but you will lose some power on the bottom. The shape of the very end of the header is tapered. This adds top end. If you run a modified air box lid, a slip on muffler, and jet it properly you will be very pleased with the results.
I'm up in the air as far as the most gains from an exhaust. Really they all add the same h.p. All it allows is more air to flow. It all boils down to what type of system do you want? SOme manufacturers offer mufflers with the disc system. This allows you to tune the exhaust for different power output and sound. Others are just straight thru designs. I look at reliablility for the slip ons. From what i've heard/read, stay away from the FMF MegaMax II. It doesn't hold up that good. THe Powercore IV is a different story, I've heard nothing but good about this pipe in the forms it's offered in. The W.B. Series of pipes have had a few problems, (most minor flaws and the manufacturer took care of the problem) The Big Gun is also good in a slip on form. I'm starting to look at the Pro Circut units. They seem pretty good.
So it all depends on your machine, how you ride, if noise is important, and your riding enivoroment.
Shop around, go to the dealers and see if some used machines have pipes on them. Start them up, and check how the pipe has held up.
Good luck, hope this has helped.
