ok, Stupid Question...
my friend just bought a lakota 300, pretty nice bike, 5spd autoclutch, and those things seem durable. another bike i would look at is the suzuki Z-250 as they are reliable, and have a really good suspension for a stock bike, they even has a fully adjustable rezzi rear shock from the factory, something the 250ex does not. the z, and kota are going to be quicker then the 250ex, but as far as relibility goes, i belive the all of them fall in the same category, which is pretty much bullet proof so far.
also the Z-250 if desired later on can be converted to a manual 5spd- with a aftermarket kit.
my best advice would be go to the dealership and go drive them- and if they wont let you, then you do want to give them your business.

Yeah lakota's are great quads! I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great quad in the trails, and for a fun and fast trail rider quad. I have had my lakota for sometime now and love it. It can keep up with my friends 400's and beat their 350, over all it's a great quad and you will be be very pleased.

i choose a lakota over the others because i found out that it could be built to run with bigger bikes like the 400's with engine work. i have not seen any company that makes a big bore kit, cam or any other engine mods besides maby a piston for the z or the 250ex. The lakota also has sprockets which i deffinatly would choose over a shaft like the z and ex have because its lighter and you could could always change the sprocket combos to make it the way you want it. with my engine work i could probally keep up with a 400ex and a z400 and i could beat a warrior deffiantly. I never raced a 400 or warrior with my engine work cuz i havnt got it back yet from the place thatsworkin on it but was tied with a warrior before so i could probally rip it up now. it also has a bigger engine to begin with and i know from riding one that the 250ex suspension is very stiff and in my opinion it hits the rev limiter way to quickly in 1st 2nd and 3rd and one it hits the rev limiter the engine starts to cut out which can be very anoying. I could also out climb the ex especially in snow. if you dont choose the lakota then i would get the z as a second choice because the z is a big up grade from the ex
