i heard that the 2003 400ex's were a bad batch for some reason? like they have less power
is this true

 

never heard of that before, and it would be a bigger issue, but this is the first "rumor" i ever heard.

 

I have never heard that rumor.

I once heard a rumor about 2000 400ex's having softer valves, but I am very very skeptical of this particular rumor.

 

yeah its a rumor, i owned one in the past and still own a honda for that matter, they check the machines over and over for problems, they aren't like the raptors, their first year was horrible. never buy a first year model from a company, they are prone to many probs. it will spend more time in the shop than it would on the trail, but not true in most cases, but the raptors tranny was the prob, but as far as the 400ex, it should be fine, you'd be hearing alot more complaints from ex owners if there actually was a prob.

 

a while back i heard a rumor about 400ex's dropping 2nd or 3rd gear..i dont remember which

my aunt has one and it fouls pllugs like a 2-stroke.

 

if your foulin up pluggs like that you either aint ridin it right or your jetting/air-fuel mixture is off.

 

i dont know why it does that, but before they start it up they put a clean plug in it .when they take the old one out its black at the end

 

its just running rich. mine was like that from the factory. you just have to adjust the carb.
