I am getting a 400ex soon, and I have a few questions. In stock form, how well does it handle jumps, fast trail riding, hill climbing, and most importantly (because I'm a huge show off) how well does it wheelie? Thanks

It succeeds greatly in all areas mentioned. People always get on it and stall it the first time because it doesn't ride like your typical 4 stroke. It wants to go and will pull wheelies even in low traction conditions.

Probably depends on your weight too. I am 150 Lbs. It does all of the above great.

I am actually thinking about softening my stock shocks. I think they are set up for a heavier rider.

Does anyone know?

The 400EX will do all of the things that you are requesting. The wheelies are super easy. You can do a slow speed first gear or you can launch and pull the front wheels in first second and if you are lucky sometimes third. This is before the exhaust and rejetting!! And I am 250 pounds!!! It is an awesome quad you will love it.

00' 400EX, FMF Powercore IV with spark arrestor, Dynojet jet kit, 14 tooth sprocket (on the way)

I would not soften them... I weigh 150 too and I could bottom them out easily.. Dislocated my wrist cause of those shocks.. Get better Shocks

I think they come from the factory set for a heavier person. I weigh 165-170 and I got my butt kicked riding the first few times. My back was all jacked up, and it took a couple of days to get better. I ended up running hard overa section of Med/Small Whoops, and then tweaking the suspension a little at a time. I only run trails, no MX, so they were typical whoops. I kept going back and forth and loosening the spring and adjusting the dampeners until it felt good. I found myself keeping the wheels on the ground more than doing the "BunnyHop" action between front and rear tires that the Factory setting had. I ended up with an unknown spring setting and both rear valves turned all the way out in one direction or the other, and i keep teh fronts on notch 4 normally adn notch 5 (Hardest) when riding really hard on the trails.

Good Luck, TT

last weekend I got my 400ex, yes I had to learn how to use a clutch, stall the first time! but with practice I have no problems with it.
But my dad got a good lesson on it. He took off spinning the tires in the garage, our drive way is gravel so when he went on the gravel, the front end lifted almost 90degrees, bucked my dad
off on his ***! me and my brother were just lol!
no harm on the bike thank god

No power band on a big bore it's there right now you don't have to wait for it to come alive it is alive.A stock EX is a fine piece of work then add on and on and on and on etc.....SAM
