Hi my 250R has got some problems the biggest
problem is that the case has become damaged from
the chain breaking and wrapping around the shift
shaft not my doing but was done by previous owner
the dealer thinks that the case can be welded and
but now seems to think that I may be better of buying a new left side case. Whats you guys' opinion am I better spending the money on a one or
should I just try and get a new one. BTW anyone have a spare they want to part with?

If it was my R, there would be only one way to fix it. Buy a new one or look for a good used one. I've seen them here in the classified section. Check with Service Honda, they seem to have real good prices. Oh and one other thing, get a case saver!

Don't bother welding the case, just buy a new one. They aren't cheap, but they do come with all new bearings and seals. The hardest part is putting it on because you obviously have to split the cases. If you know what you are doing it is easy, but I would recommend you take it to a worthy mechanic if you have never done it before. As far as case savers go, you can get those pretty much anywhere and they are a big help! I have thrown a chain and got it jammed between the sprocket, case saver, swingarm and shift shaft. This is a pain to dislodge, but it is also free, because there is no damage done.
