Air Intake Resonators

Air Intake Resonators
Anybody know what the resonators are for on the air intake? My old Rincon had one on the snorkel, and my new Rancher AT has one on the snorkel and one huge one that connects straight into the air box. Are they to improve air flow? Reduce noise?
