400EX Air Box Mods
#1
I have a 440 kit and run w/o a lid on the air box. I plan on running a CC race and there are several creek crossings, some of which are said to be pretty deep. What is the best way to keep the air flow, and stop the water?? Are there any aftermarket parts to help me??
Thanks, Scott

I have to agree, just the lid on. Best, (or how i did it) is to pick up one more from the shop, (<$10) and purchase the filter vents from your local speed shop. You can drill some 3/4" holes into the lid, pop these little filters in, and you have a high flow (dust and water resist) box. Also, if you get into a wet weekend, you just put back on the stock (no holes) and ride it like you stole it. Jetting doesnt seem to be hurt, or performance, and safety is taken care of for you.
Also, i think the manual says to remove the drain tube from the airbox (bottom) to ride in wet conditions(stock lid). I think so, but check the manual. Some how, i think it drains your box faster, but you shouldnt be hitting 4 foot streams with the box wide open repeatedly.
Ride on!
