i believe the 1-n-2

is so you can go all the way down without hitting neutral

you rarely every hit neutral, if you do its because you didn't pull up hard enough.

Its not hard, i learned when i was 10,

and my mom can drive my 300ex, and she has drove my blaster. I'm sure you can handle it

The shift pattern on a manual clutch quad is the same as a manual clutch motorcycle. Sport quads are more like dirt bikes, that’s one of the reasons I like them. Thanks to Polaris, utility quads are becoming more snowmobiles, no shifting at all.

i know what the shift pattern is now. the clutch is what confuses me. i know i can get use to it. my 230e is auto clutch. ok it goes like this: 1. pull in clutch
2. shift up (or down)
3. let out clutch
4. give it gas
5. plant you A**
6. hold on

You work the clutch and the throttle together. It’s the same with automotive transmissions.

Follow these instructions when you first start riding a manual clutch machine.

1.) Pull in clutch and pop it into first gear.

2.) Increase the engine RPM above idle so it will have more torque but don’t speed the engine up to much.

3.) Release the clutch very slowly, apply more throttle when you sense the engine coming under load and continue to release the clutch.

With a little practice you shouldn’t have to apply any throttle before beginning to release the clutch.

After that it’s a lot like riding an auto clutch except for a little throttle clutch co-ordination.

1.) Pull in the clutch, pop the shifter up with your toe with a quick little jerk to hit the next gear.

2.) Release the clutch and apply the throttle simultaneously. Don’t lead too much with the throttle though.

It won’t take long and you’ll get good at it. All motions; shift, throttle and clutch will be nearly simultaneous. I know your not supposed to ride double but it’s good to get on with someone who knows how, so you can hear what it sounds like and maybe feel the motions.

A lot of people eventually decide not to shift but I think it’s good to know how anyway.

I would rather ride a manual than auto, have had the feel of both.

don't forget to pull in the clutch when you get ready to stop......thats a problem I've seen with first timers.
