14T for 400EX ?
#1
Whats the scoop here - Im always trying to find a nice mod. I keep hearing about people putting a 14T on front -- does this mean the stock is 15T ?
What does this do to top end speed ? Any aftermarket 14T will do ? - or should I stick with Honda?
Any of you that have done this - let me know what to expect - where to get it - and what do i have to do to back sprocket.
I have stock size tires (Holeshot) 20x11x9 on rear - just like stock tire size.
Ive also heard is you go with 22 on rear - you have to change sprockets anyway... why ?
THanks!

If you're interested in maintaining your top end speeds then stick with your stock countershaft sprocket. But if top speed doesn't matter that much and you'd like more usable torque then switching to the 14 tooth works better. The 400EX gets off the line quicker with the 14 tooth sprocket too. They're available from www.sprocketspecialists.com or just order a 14 tooth sprocket for an XR400 motorcycle, which uses the same engine and sprockets.

you will prob be able to start in 2nd off the line which is huge plus+++...however i run 18 inch turf tamers on the rear and went up a tooth so i could start in 2nd....so i now run a 16th front and love it....but when i put 20 inchers on that gearing sucks.....so it all depends on your tire size and it sounds like the 14 would be your bet.......starting in 2nd will sometimes be the deciding factor on winning allot of races and getting the whole shot.....those 18's with a 16 front are amazing.....gave me a whole other bike, no lie......but i run mx so good luck!
