Fortunately for bikes that have an external sump (like the 400EX), if you over fill oil you will probably just blow some oil lines off. You however, may not be so lucky. Might just be an oil cooler line, but otherwise you may have blown some internal seals. I would put oil in it, start it up briefly, and try to see where oil is coming from.

There is a (street bike) web site that shows what seals you are likely to blow by overfilling. I will try to scare it up.

i did the same thing with mine and it came out the overflow hose on the top of the head. If you look on top of the head there is a rubber tube and it comes out by the left side by the frame rail. I found out i put too much in and had to add more oil to bring it up too just the right amount because it blew alot of oil out of the over flow tube. Then i rode it hard all weekend and no problems. I dont think you ruined anything just get the oil cleaned up and start it and it shouldnt leak. Then check your cylinder head all the way around the top for oil base gasket, oil lines, crankcase, side case covers, Valve cover gasketsit could be leaking from those if you did wreck something but i am pretty sure it just came out the overflow hose.
