I too am considering another 4X4. There are lots of posts about these, so if you do a search you should turn up lots of info. The Rancher package is a nice one. Big enough to do the job, but not a huge beast either. The AT has a reputation for being down on low end power. Don't recall any major reliability issues being posted.

Default Question on Rancher 400 AT 4x4(Purchase?)

I have the 400AT and my friend I ride with has the 350ES. Of course I like the features of my quad better, that's why I got it instead of the 350. As far as low end gearing goes, the ES has lower gearing. It will pull harder under a load and will perform a bit better if your rock climbing or something like that. In the mud it's no contest. I win hands down. Only because I can cruise through at whatever speed without loosing momentum shifting. Going up a hill is much nicer on my quad because the speed is easier to control. Also on a trail I have to slow down for him to catch up. The 400 is faster, partially because of the automatic transmission.

Both bikes have thier pro's and con's. Both are plenty fast and plenty strong and will pull whatever you can get enough traction to pull. I know I got the right bike for me.

Good luck

Default Question on Rancher 400 AT 4x4(Purchase?)

The AT is a great bike. My wife never rode a quad before in her life and loves my AT. She will jump on it and never think twice. The thing I like the most about the AT when my wife is on it is the Engine Braking System(EBS). When her thumb is off of the throttle she is slowing down immediately. Going down steep inclines the bike will crawl down the slope.
I never rode a Kodiak but I am sure it is a lot smoother ride than the AT. I just don't think a Kodiak is as stable on a hillside as my AT. A few months ago a woman was killed when her quad rolled over on her. When they showed the scene on the news there was her Kodiak siiting in the background.

Good Luck

Uhhh, I think I can believe that report. Since it was on the the three local 6:00 news. They were reporting from the field of the accident and the damaged Kodiak was in the background with emergency services all around.
I am not saying that having IRS was a factor in the accident, there are many factors that could be the reason for the accident. I just know that I have seen articles in many different magazines that say SRA bikes are more stable on hilly terrain than IRS bikes. (Riding along side of the hill that is.)

Default Question on Rancher 400 AT 4x4(Purchase?)

Well,I can only hope that my wife doesn't read this, cuz if I come home with a 05 kodiak she might not cook any more dinners for me.LOL!!!

I have a quote of $5550 OTD for a 05 rancher 400 AT GPScape

I have a $6199 OTD for a 05 kodiak 450

Please help if you can.I will be going over my budget on either machine, but what the heck. There is not much for clean used at this time.

The honda is"SMOOTH" as far as the tranny goes

The yami will have alot more options.Water cooled, diff lock,IRS....

BTW,what's top speed on a 400 at?

What a crisis,Thanks again,M/M.
