I have a 2004 honda 250 fourtrax that is 7 1/2 months old it has now been at the dealer for 3 weeks it is stuttering under load and barely runs after half throttle and they can't seem to find the problem .Honda tech dept. has told the mech. to check the carb they did that 3 times it didn't work ,then they tried coil, cdi., and carb off another machine, no change then they pulled the head maybe a valve problem, no not that either meanwhile my son is going crazy because we got him a 2005 LT160 suzuki that he has only road about 10-11 times since Jan. because since the middle of Feb. I tried to solve the problem myself and finnally gave up and now I am no further ahead .Has anybody had a similer problem and if so what did it end up being . Honda told the dealer to try 1 more thing tomorrow I'm not sure what but they said to try but if it didn't fix it they would send a Tech. down from Toronto Tues. because Monday is a holiday here. Any ideas anyone .I just want to ride that is why I bought new this time

I have a Honda Rancher ES. My bike would do the same thing under heavy pull sometimes and evetually got to where it would only idle but when you throttled the engine it would spit and sputter. Dealer told me I needed a new carb. All that was wrong with the bike was that the vent tubes for the carb had mud (TRASH) in them causing the engine to starve for fuel (SPITTING AND SPUTTERING). Try removing the lines and try blowing them out. Hope this helps. It did the trick for me....no more problems. Sometimes people tend to over think the obvious. If this fixes your bike you need to run your vent lines to the hadle bars to help with future problems.

Same with my 450 ES.
Rerouted the lines and no problems since.

I've seen this problem a few times and in one case it was the pet-**** that was pluged and in another it was a pluged main jet , also the computer had a crack that caused it to arc
Just a few things

Today the dealer put the carb, fuel lines, vents, gas cap, carb, cdi , air box and coil off a great running machine and mine still stuttered badly and didn't really want to run past half throttle. I'd trade it in on a new machine but it would have to be running to do that then there would be no point . Anybody have anymore ideas

I am not sure how that carb mounts but I've seen quads with a torn boot between the carb and engine act that way. Also had the spark plug boot on my Raptor break where the screw goes into the wire leading to the coil. Basically, the screw just fried in half. It would idle and go to about half throttle and then I guess it lost spark after that it didn't run correctly.

I assume they checked the timing and nothing is wrong with the timing chain.

Hmmmmmm........evidentaly your dealer is not very qualified to repair bikes. Where there is a problem correct trouble shooting will ALWAYS lead you to the cause. How long have you had the bike......if not long I would give it back under the lemon law. If they refuse then your lawyer can easily get it done for you.

No kidding. Even if it is like 6 months old or around there, they should do something for you. Maybe ship that one back in and give you a different one that is new.

well here we are almost 1 month later and the dealer told me between them and honda tech dept. they have finnally determined that it is my pulse coil that is defective but because it is out of warrenty honda will only supply parts I have to pay for labour they say 4 hrs @ $60.00 per hour I told them to get it fixed since I have not had my quad for a month now and my son is dieing to ride but my gut reaction was to tell them both to stuff it . I said from day one the machine did not run right their answer was I should have brought it in sooner . I told another honda dealer my tale of troubles he said if I want to trade up to a 2005 250 fourtrax bring my 2004 machine and $500.00 and be on my way with a new machine I don't know what to do. the wife says go for it it won't happen to another machine and honda is best she has more faith than me , or maybe i'm just so pissed a lossing a months riding I need to cool off anyway just needed to vent some anger !! machine is supposed to be ready tuesday so I guess I'll drink some wobbly pops and listen to everyone else riding by the house for one more weekend .good riding to all

So as I see it:

30 weeks old minus(-)
3 weeks in shop equals(=)
27 weeks.
Warranty is 6 months which is 24 weeks.
With a grand total of 3 weeks
give or take with a break down that left you without a atv.........
Honda is giving you BAD customer service.

I would ask for some help from a "Honda senior".You deserve better service than that,in principal!!!!

These stories just kill me cuz I as a rule buy almost new wave the risk of a major break down that would be covered under a 6 mo. warranty.

glassman181,sorry for your greif and I wish all the best!!!!

Your sometimes better to cut your losses and move on.....if something else goes majorly wrong with the machine you'll be kickin youself!!!!!

Again, cry a little woopa$$.Honda reliability yada, yada!! Let them know you based your purchase on the fact that Honda's the best and why so soon after warranty's up that they are kickkin ya to the curb!!!!

Give em "H-E" (double hockey sticks) "L-L"!!!!!! m/m.
