I am not a big fan of the stock tires. I feel there handling is poor in mud or light slop. On downhill bends (tight) they seem to load up and plow. Where i ride that is a VERY bad thing. I have ridden on rocks and roots and they were fine, grat on hard pack, but just not the best in my kind of mud. I just ordered Ducks Unlimited Wetland and am looking forward to trying them out. I am not too interested in running deep mud (if U R look at 589's ) I was looking for a good all around trail tire with some mud ability (aka - I can turn the machine if I want to). I also recommend 6ply tires to help resist flats.
Good luck

Geez! Everyone is so passionate about their machines AND their tires! I fully admit that I have a sample of one for my comparison (hence, NO comparison!) but for the trails in my area they seem fine. I am just disappointed on how fast they are wearing. I just spent $12k for this machine (yes, I know we get screwed on pricing in Canada) and it PO's me that I may have to spend another $300 relatively soon.

That would be about $9.5k in real (US) dollars. Still expensive by your standards. I should note that we also pay 15% tax here.
I think we really got nailed in the late 90's, early 00's when the CAD/US rate was about 1.5. I believe we get all our bikes through the US so they just multiplied your price by 1.5. Now the rate is about 1.25 and, as expected, they have not dropped the price. As such, we have about a 25% premium on your price (when converted to US$). Clear as mud?
