ATVAction Shootout:Raptor vs 400ex
#12
Oh, I forgot to mention that when the shootout was done on the DS, race prepped R, and the project 600, the DS was about 1.5 seconds slower around the track. They said that was not very much. How much did the 400EX loose by?

Quadfather: You should write to Dirtwheels and ask them to test a Raptor against yor 400 sport. Since it puts out more HP then a Raptor. HAHA. But, for the motor advantage the Raptor had, the 400ex did very good. It is funny how DW puts down the 400ex now.

I am tired of hearing people say " oh duh it has 260cc more, what do you expect". Well duh, its not all about the motor. Honda has never been known for there motor, always there suspension, handling etc. and ALWAYS has the advantage over Yamaha. NOw Yamaha has a 660 beast and it handles better than the 400EX and has alot more power. I own both and it is plain and simple, the 400 has no chance.
People that keep bringing that up abviously know nothing about quads, or are just plain stupid and dont want to admit that the Raptor is the real deal.
It doesnt surprise me that it is coming from someone that drive a Polarsis. So your sportsman can beat a Banshee and 400Ex b/ it has more cc's. You are not the only one I am talking about, I have seen a few of these stupid posts.

i got a 400, i'm not scared to admit that i'm sure a raptor could beat it either, it would be nice to see honda release a CR500R quad or a 650EX... its actually nice to see that yamaha actually made a nice quad that will propably replace their banshee when/if they decide to stop production on it... as for the big bores, kinda seems like a fad to me and that it will prob. end in 3-5 years, are if it doesnt, can you imagin some of the quads waiting to be released in the future? like maybe a 1000CC twin or triple cylinder quad weighin in at under 500 lbs with the technology increasing? which i'm sure the goverment will want to stop the fun of owning that

I remember the magazines saying the same thing about the DS650 when it came out. They even went so far as to test it against a modified 250R and a 600EX. Well, it's a year later and the DS650 isn't out there winning MX races all over the country....
I love this selective belief in the magazines. When a Honda wins a shootout it's "Oh those d@mn magazines are so biased" but if they say anything else it's the gospel....
What a circus...
BTW... The Raptor is a a good handling bike for a Yamaha, but still a far cry from out handling either the 250R or 400EX - it has no rake, a higher center of gravity, more narrow stance, poor rear suspension geometry, and is modestly heavier- what part of the physics do you guys not understand? Go to the MX track and see for yourself, I haven't seen any Raptor owners here yet come back and say they've won anything but a drag race, I'm sure if they have, they'd be in here immediately rubbing it in...
Sorry for the tone of this post, but this crap is really getting quite old.
Also - my new and improved EX is now running. Beware of the stock appearing bike ;-)

I didn't get the feeling that DW was putting down the 400EX. It was the quad that all others were measured against for three years. It had a good run. Now I'm sure Honda will put something out in the next year or two, and we'll have to hear about it, and see it all over the covers of ATV mags for eight months like with the Raptor. The Raptor is a notch above, and now it's time for someone else to step forward.

All I know is that it seems like everytime I check out the new posts, they revolve on the same thing. Raptor vs. 400EX.
Enough is enough, Yamaha has a four wheeler, Honda has a four wheeler, and they both go fast. Pretty simple, If everyone is so worried about how they do on the MX track......well, wait and see; stop judging atv's based on their HP output, and see what happens in 12 months time.
What ever happened to the posts like "My 300EX makes a funny noise when I start it..." Or "Hey, does anyone ride in Marienville?"
I don't think ATV Connection Magazine had horsepower wars, and cross country bickering in mind when they set up this forum.

I personelly think hi-torque publications are retarded. I dont really care that the raptor beat the 400, it was expected anyway, but look at what they said when they first reviewed the 400EX. They said it had tons of power and absolutely great suspension. Now look what they say: The raptor motor has tons of power and puts the small 400EX motor to shame. First they claim the 400 is powerful, and then they come back and say its slow. heres another thing about them. when they first reviewed the 400 they said it should be bought by the experienced rider only. now they say that about the raptor and say anyone who can use a clutch can ride a 400. does that make sense?
