Default is a 400ex a good buy

I have been riding quads and dirt bikes all my life. Mostly my parents larger work 4 wheelers. I went to our honda shop the other day and they had a new 2004 honda sporttrax 400ex. I always wanted a sport atv and they were asking 4999.00 for it. i want a 4 wheeler that is fast enough to be repectable and one that can jump and ride trails well. Is this quad good enough for what i want.

The 400ex is a great bike for what you have described to use it for. If you want reverse you could go with the 05. I cant say for sure how the cost compares as I have never looked into a new one. I would say (guessing) that is a good price. You can always offer less and see what happens. BTW welcome to the forums.

$5,000 for a 2004 is high. There is a bonus bucks promotion right now for $200 on this model. I am guessing you should be able to take a total of $500 off list so you are looking at $4,800 OTD + tax. (you shouldn't pay extra for setup or delivery).

Try going to www.nada.com.

For a 2004 400 EX it says low retail $3205 and high $4215.

Don't be confused on the Value Explanation:

Low Retail Value ·low retail unit may have extensive wear and tear. Body parts may have dents and blemishes. The buyer can expect to invest in cosmetic and/or mechanical work. This vehicle should be in safe running order. Low retail vehicles usually are not found on dealer lots.

Average Retail Value ·An average retail unit should be clean without obvious defects. All rubber and cables should be in good condition. The paint should match and have a good finish. All lights and switches should work properly. The mileage should be within or slightly higher than the average range. This unit should also pass any emission inspection.

I have to agree that the price sounds a bit high. Considering that it is an '04 and doesnt have the new healights or body as the '05, it should be cheaper. My bro-in-law just got a '04 for $4300, but dont know if the prices differ much state to state. but i'd say talk them down. if you are gonna pay that much, look around and try to find an'05 for not much more.

its a great quad and its perfect for what you want to do...yeah its a little high like other said but yeah try to talk them down a little and see what they say...cuz im sure you could find a 2004 felt over KFX400 or z400 for about 5000 at some dealers...if they really want to get rid of it they will probably go down a few 100 bucks a least...

Personally i think youll love the 400ex. I recently bought myself one and even though i cant use it on the farm i absoutly love t for trails. Ive still got the big boys for the famr though. Anyways i think the 400 does a great job at trails, jumping, and hill climbs. It may be considered out of date but there about as bullet proof as you can get. As far as the dealer price i think it is to high. I could have bought a new 04 from the dealer for 400 but ended up buying a used 04 from them for 3150 that on a scale of 1 to 10 1 being low 10 being high id give it a 9.5. It also had close to 1500 in after market accesiors on it. So therefor get the 400 youll love it
