Vinson 2003 automatic oil
The owners manual should spell out whats needed. Its probably a 10w40 thats SG rated. As long as the container says that...its the correct stuff. Brand means almost nothing, if the label says the same thing....its the same thing. Dont buy into the marketing hype. Amsoil and valoline both make motorcycle specific oil, and amsoil is synthetic, and the valoline is dino.
The motor doesnt need any moly additives, so make sure the container does not have the star burst, energy conserving label.

Pick a motorcycle specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA. http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm I am a proponent of synthetic oils (providing your motor is already broken in). PAO Synthetics (like Mobil 1 and Amsoil) are better than any dino oil, and Ester Synthetics (like Maxima Extra or Motul 5100) are better than PAO's. http://www.maximausa.com/technical/l...beNews2002.pdf
See my post about oil weights: http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/453944.cfm In the south, you can probably get by with 10W40, but a ?W50 would give an added margin of protection during hot summers.
But, check your owners manual to be sure whatever you pick is compatible.
