That kit is a clutch upgrade to thr release mechanism, not the clutch pack or basket.
If the cable is adjusted properly and still does that, order the kit from Service Honda and get a book. The clutch cover will have to come off to do the update.

Snap a pic of your swingarm from the rear, focus on the chain adjuster.

The helm sticker is most likely swing arm pivot bushings, or a-arm bushings. Factory stuff is needle bearings.

Cant really tell for sure by that pic, zoom in on that sticker and the holes to adjust the chain. You might already be set on that.

added a new pic of back. It was kind of dark though

It looks like the next project is the clutch. that clutch kit will fix this problem?

Good that is a billet carrier, and caliper bracket. Your all set there.

Yes, order up the 89 update kit. Unless you want to tear it down and verify you need it first. Get a manual, Clymer or Honda, a good read on the crapper. Get firmiliar with the book. You're not getting into the tranny, just the clutch. You may not need an entire clutch set up. You'll know more once the clutch cover is off. While you are waiting for the update kit to arrive, price out a billet basket, Barnette clutch pack, engine gasket set, and at least 2-Qts. of 80w Gear Saver fluid.

Alright, Dont go buying that list of goodies yet, except for the manual.

I use 80w Gear Saver, I think it's Bel Ray. easy to get at any m/c shop.

Another handy thing to have is a Ratio Rite measuring cup. Good for mixing gas and measuring case oil.

Did you order that kit from Service Honda yet????

Did you get a book yet? If you did, follow step by step how to remove the cover. Then you remove the pressure plate.
If you dont have the update kit you will see a ball in the center of where the pressure plate was. Gently pull the clutch, the lifter rod will slide out. If there is a ball attached to the end of that rod its toast.

I havent ordered the book or the kit yet. I ordered the kit today and will pick up the book. I hope its just the kit I need. This is starting to get expensive. It takes 7 to 10 business days to get the part. Servicehonda is not exactly fast.
