aight well this may sound like a dumb question but i would like to know which one some people like better and why? i have ridden a 300ex and i like the way you can just lift up the front end by punchin the thorottle and it seems to jump a lot nicer than a warrior<-- jumps heavy like, jumpin a whale.. is the 400ex more fun to ride and do you really miss the reverse. i ride mostly muddy trails, and mx tracks every now and then.

well, i had my choice of this.

I bought the 300ex and can came into 2,000 and was going to buy the 400ex. Well it flopped on me, and today i had the chance to trade it and buy a used 00. Well i took the 400ex out for a ride around this guys yard(he wanted the 300 for his son, he bought himself a raptor) well anyways. I must say i wasn't impressed. I was going to give him my 300ex and 1,500. The 400 only had like 15 hours on it. Anyways.

It did have more power, not like wow i can't believe it has so much power! but it was very...mild..?

Handling, i didn't notice a difference, with 20" tires on the back of a 300 i'm sure it will handle the same.

Suspension was majorly better on the 400.

But for the cash i'd rather pipe my 300ex, get a cam, some works shocks, a little porting, valve job, and a CDI box mod. I'll be just as happy and have a custom ATV.

Oh yeah, i mainly ride tight trails(places where you can only stick it in reverse to get out of places) And a good bit of mud. I can say i'm more than happy with my 300ex.

yeah dude, but the 300 is definatly A LOT slower than a 400. Make sure when you ride the 400 you top it out in 5th... it'll make you think that your 300ex's 5th gear is the 4oo's 3th. After riding a 400ex, then riding a 300ex, The 300ex seems like a recon. even the handling! NO OFFENSE! Even if you totallly trick out your 300 it will never beat a 400 unless it is a 405. And that is an EXPENSIVE investment.

The first day i got my 400ex (now mind, i went for a 450s to a 4ooex) I was challenged to race against my sister's boyfriend's 360ex. He had everything you could imagine on this bike, and i still beat him by a quadlength in a SHORT drag (100 yards). The 400 does handle better because it is balanced perfectly, and it is DEFINATLY better on the track!! I KNOW THIS!!! I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE ON A 300 on a track! The 400 is really easy to maneuver in the air.

My suggestion: If you ride woods ALL the time, and never jump or anything, go for the 300.

If you want to jump around and FLY, go for the 400ex.

The stock gearing for the 300 is lower, and people say that this is why they are better in the woods, well for 6.99 you can get a 14 tooth front sprocket that will make the 400 have A LOT MORE BAWLZ!

I ride tight trails, and have never needed reverse, i have a friend who rides a 300ex, and he dosen't even use his reverse, when we have to turn around, it's easier to use the front brake to powersilde around. This kid is pretty good on his 300, but i still burn him in the woods, but just because my bike is faster.

PS: I didn't mean this to insult your intelligence, or cause any argument, i respect you as an ATV rider, and everyone has their own opinions about machines.

just my .02

i have 250x prety much same as 300ex. i recently rode a brand new 400ex. i hated it. well i think it has a little more power.
way better suspesion. i hated how it hadled. i dint even lean and i could spin donuts. i love how on my x . how u actually have t ride it not just sit on it like on a 400ex . 400ex pull better wheelies. i raced the 400 on my x and i was a quad lenght and a half ahead then the guy cuahgt up to me when i was in 3rd and totally waxed me. on a straihgt away. i go wiht the 300ex. get a tricked out quad. if u got the mmoney go with a 400ex. but definetly get the smaller front spocket. it already has more topend then ull ever need. if u just wna tto have hella good time get the 300. u can mod it as u become better. these are probaly pretty ingonoraqnt statement from a 15 year old . this is just my opinion

All the 400ex owners will say get a 400ex, and all the 300ex owners will say 300ex.

I love my 300ex, and won't trade it for a 400ex. Its all in how and where you ride

94Dgblaster:

you pretty much nailed that one right on the head!!

They are both great machines, and i wouldn't trade my 400 for anything, as the 300exers would not trade their for anything...

an agreement has been made!

They are both great ATVs and you can't go wrong with either one.

I can say one thing for both. You will not regret it, nor have any troubles with either one

My wife and I have been riding 300ex's for about 5 years now. I had been wanting a 400ex ever since they came out and finally an friday I got one (400) and took it up to our normal riding area(PA). All I can say is I can't believe I waited that long! The difference is like night and day. You think it is easy to get the front wheels up on a 300ex, you have to work to keep them down on a 400. I love it even after riding it only once. We ride in everything from super tight woods to basketball size rocks to wide open coal slag dunes. I have only needed reverse once but still got the thing turned around and out before my wife could screw around with her reverse lever and get turned around. If you look ahead and pick your lines right you shouldn't need reverse that often. I did however put a 14 tooth front sprocket on it for slower woods riding. That made a huge difference.

i would say get a 400 if you can. 300ex are great quads but they are a little brother in my mind (that is not bad.) try rideing both and see what you like.

and about differant people likeing things when i went to madera there were 6 of us. 3 400ex's 1 DS 650 my 250r and a Prairie 4x4 and every one of us liked our ride the best.
