I am purchasing a new 2005 recon and was wondering If I should get the extended warranty? Not being extremely mechanical(can do basic upkeep)I would like to see what everyones opinion is.also,I have heard the the dealership charges more for warranties and that extended warranties can be purchased directly from honda corp?anyone know if this is true. thanks for the help..ride safe.

The dealers do mark up the price on warranties! I have a good friend who is the general manager at our local Honda shop and he shows me dealer cost vs. retail on every thing. You can negotiate the price of the warranty. I did and saved several hundred dollars. I would recommend the extended warranty if it is a Recon with ESP. You may never have a problem but with it being an electric shift, I would want the piece of mind to know that if something did break that you can get it fixed for no cost. Just my 2 cents.

My experience with Yamaha was they didn't want to honor anything under the warranty. I finally got a refund on the remainder. For example, they refused to warranty the one-way when it crapped out.
I can't speak for Honda because I didn't get an extended and have never had anything major go wrong.

Toby - sorry for getting off-topic. The extended warrenty is only worth it if you need it. I got it for my Rubicon.
