a 250ex is not fast. it wasnt meant to be and never will be a fast quad. it is a good machine for what it does. it is a great starter machine. they go anywhere do anything and dont have enough power to scare a new rider. trying to make a 250ex fast or faster is a waste of money. just my .02.

The 250 is a great bike, but only within its limitations. First off, this isn't a machine that you want to get to hopped up.........it just doesn't have the suspension to handle extreme speeds. If you really want to go fast, then step up to a real sport bike and leave the little 250 for the kids. I would just vent the airbox (but not to much, that little 250 can only handle so much air!) and an aftermarket exhaust, and be satisfied with that.
I would certainly change the tires. The balooney stockers tend to make the bike push in turns. I run Holeshot XC's on ITP rims, which make the bike about 3" wider in back and 2" in front. Way more stable, and cures the pushiness.
